The Saint John Vianney Scholars program is designed to provide financial and academic support to children in need that are involved in their community and motivated to excel in school. Each year eight students from Catholic elementary schools in the Archdioceses of Philadelphia are selected to be the recipents of partial four year scholarships to attend one of 17 Archdiocesan high schools*. They are selected based on the results of the Neumann Scholars exam which is independently administered through the Connelly Foundation, which takes place in January.

Letters of invitation to sit for the Neumann Scholars Test in January are sent by elementary school principals to eligible students in November who meet the following criteria:

  • Attended a parish/regional elementary school for the entire 7th grade academic year
  • Currently attend a parish/regional school located in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia
  • Achieved a National Percentile (NP) Total Score of 90 or above OR a Cognitive Skills Index (CSI) of 120 or above in the 7th grade Terra Nova Test
  • Achieved a final general average of 92.0 in the first marking period of 8th grade
  • Have a strong desire to attend an Archdiocesan high school
  • Received an invitation to take the Neumann Scholars Test
  • Complete the application process by the stated deadline
  • Submit an essay to your principal by the stated deadline

For more information on the Neumann Scholars Program and Test visit the Connelly Foundation website.

The Saint John Vianney Scholars program began in 2012 and the initial Scholarship Awards were presented to eight students at the Scholarship Sunday presentation held at St. John Vianney Church in Gladwyne, PA.
